Academia de Rowan (A Tapeçaria hUestions to putim on the path of the jewel while genuine riddle solvers were ot on their eels and that made the whole epsiode end with a bit of a whimperBamber Gasgoigne tells the tale with real wit and verve I enjoyed the stories of the uite Two Reels And A Crank honestly craziness of the uest for some peopleow it took over their lives took up their Queens Gambit (The Tudor Trilogy, holidays and savings strained their relationships made the people around them uestion their sanity This was a book I d somewhat lazilyad alf an eye out for over the course of twenty years or so It was worth the wait 25 starsI m sure people who ave a personal connection to the uest like this book better than someone like
me who just read it as a documentation of a piece who just read it as a documentation of a piece cultural The Camping Cookbook history For that purpose it was ok but frankly the source where I found out about this book Jimmy Maher s blog The Digital Antiuarian did a better job in describing the whole affair and even its further aftermath concerning Ken Thomas and various other things that took place after the bookad already been publishedMaybe it was because I was not familiar with Masuerade the book that I found the description of the contest a confusing The book was published uite soon after found the description of the contest bit confusing The book was published uite soon after Absalom, Absalom! hunt was over and no doubt targeted to those whoad been involved in it Anyway Maher s blog was the better account 30 years after the fact and for someone who didn t take partAlso I think there were too many masueraders cases that weren t that interesting while the people who found the real solution to the riddle as well as the solution itself were not given the length I think it would ave deserved Anyway many of the masueraders cases just showed so clearly that people will become convinced of the craziest things A great istory of the global obsession and eventual controversy that was Kit Williams Masuerade I first learned of this book in 1990 so I was a good decade too late to even attempt to find the treasure but the book taught me that I Black Stone had much to learn before I go tackling riddles It seemed impossible to me so I just focused on the beauty of the art inside Walking in London I saw a copy of Masuerade packaged together with The uest For The Golden Hare in the window of a book shop The price was 40 for the pair and I grabbed it My copy of Masuerade was long gone the binding went so my favorite pages decorated my walls so I jumped at the chance for a new copy and to read about the discovery Since this book outlines the riddle in the appendices Iighly recommend finding a copy of Masuerade to refer to once you finish this one. Asure's location and the solution to the mystery subseuently wrote this book which answers every uestion asked about the masuerade including a step by step explanation of ow the puzzle was conceived and of the perfect soluti. EdGascoigne as an easy writing style and is clearly enjoying No Way Down himself immensely and it shows inis descriptive and insightful account of the entire event from creation to resolution He debunks many frustratingly incorrect theories that developed and waxes philosophical on what the uest revealed about uman nature It s a great parallel to be drawn with religion everyone is given the same clues but some people manage to extrapolate ludicrous theories based on one element while ignoring all others and other people manage to tie their own interests back into the clues even where it clearly reuires immense stretches of logicThis is capped off by the perfect solution submitted by the only two men
#who ever figured #ever figured the whole riddle This is a very enjoyable read if you ave the original book by your side as well and after learning of the devotion of many of the Masueraders the circumstances surrounding the solving of the puzzle are almost English Humour for Beginners heartbreakingThe only downside is that the book as it was published in the early 1980s was too early to uncover one final scandal the man who found theare was not who Absolutely on Music he claimed and in fact further investigation revealed it wasn t luck or insight that ledim to the location but instead insider knowledge It was a dirty end to an otherwise marvelous modern myth and it s a pity that the news came out after this book was published But never mind this is a great summary of a breathtaking real life event found via on 20150927 Bamber Gascoigne The Ransom of Mercy Carter had a part as witness to the burial of Kit Williams Masueradeare jewel that so consumed treasure unters across the world from 1979 to 1982 It was a glorious idea Kit Williams jewel that so consumed treasure unters across the world from 1979 to 1982 It was a glorious idea Kit Williams to create real treasure to make up for the broken promises of manufacturers during Lallieva (Alice Allevi, his childhood when promised buried treasure turned out to be a cut out and send off special offer and make a precious jewel bury it and give everybody a chance to expose it and find it inis paintings It was a phenomenally difficult task the paintings are masterpieces of realist art perhaps not to everybody s taste but the expertise that went into them is beyond doubt to begin with and the jewel is an amazing labour of love the riddle in the text was perhaps the most taxing task it ad to be difficult enough not to be solved immediately and yet aimed at everybody to fulfil KW s promise that a child could do it I m not so sure about that I must say The ending of the mystery is relatively well known an acuaintance of an ex girlfriend of KW managed to get at er and ask enough of the right. S in a book called Masuerade By the time the golden British Society Since 1945 haread been unearthed it ad led to an astonishing variety of dare devil adventures and personal discoveriesBamber Gascoigne chosen as the one impartial witness to the tre. I recently unearthed this book while unboxing my collection and ad
